If you have a safe place to sleep tonight, stay there.
If you have a safe place to stay for the time being, start taking the first steps to find a long-term home.

Get Help Now

Try these options if you need a safe place to stay tonight:

  • Talk to family and friends. There are people who care about you and they may be able to help you while you look for a longer-term option.
  • Contact your county or tribal human services office. Your county may be able to offer services and supports to help you find stable housing, including a place to sleep tonight.
  • Contact shelters. Shelters are places where you can stay until you can get more permanent help. Some shelters only help people in certain situations, like runaway teens, domestic violence survivors, or families with children. Other shelters are for anybody who is experiencing homelessness. Keep in mind that there are limited spaces in shelters and they may be full.
  • Reach out to other nonprofits. Sometimes churches, other religious communities, or other organizations offer short-term help to people who are experiencing homelessness.

Once you’ve got a place where you can stay a few nights, you need to immediately start looking for longer-term help, both for your housing and for other needs. Your county or tribal human services office is the first place you need to contact, since it can help you with benefits like SNAP and General Assistance (GA).
