Finding and keeping good housing can be hard, but there are people who can help you. The key is to figure out who can help, since there are many different agencies and programs out there.
Think about the questions below so that you have a better idea of the types of help you need. Then use HB101’s tools and information to find the people who can help.
What’s your situation now?
Different people and programs help people in different situations. Think about is your own situation:
- Do you have a stable place to live in? Or do you need to find a place as soon as possible?
- Where are you living right now? Are you living in a facility? With family? Or on your own?
- What type of place do you want to live in? Do you want your own apartment?
- Do you have a disability or health condition?
- How are you for money?
- Do you have a job?
- What sorts of benefits do you get?
- What type of health coverage do you have?
The more you know about each of these, the more likely you are to find somebody who can help you.
Important: If you are homeless or at risk of homelessness, use HB101’s Homeless Services Map to get help as soon as possible.
What types of help do you need?
Different people and programs can help with different things. What do you need help with? Think about:
- Health needs (like specific medical services, treatments, or medications)
- Mental health needs (like counseling or support)
- Disability-related needs (like things you might need in a place to make it accessible for you and services you need)
- How you will find a place to live
- How you will move into a new place
- How you will pay for a place to live
- How you will learn skills you need to live on your own
There are programs that specialize in many different types of things, so it’s important for you to have an idea of the help you need. (There are also programs that can help you if you don’t know what you need!)

Before you start looking for new people and organizations who can help you, think about the people who are already helping you.
They might include:
- Friends, family, and other people you trust.
- Workers at your county or tribal human services office.
- People at Disability Hub MN who’ve helped you in the past.
- MA-Waiver support workers.
- School counselors or teachers who’ve helped you over the years.
- Services providers who’ve supported you to be able to live in your own place in the past.
The HB101 Vault’s Build a Housing Team activity is a good way for you to keep track of all the people who are helping you with housing. It helps you organize them, add their contact information, and even gives information about the types of things they can help with.
Your Housing Team is stored securely online and you can view it and update it at any time in your Vault account.

Go to Guide
You’ve now thought about yourself, your situation, the types of help you need, and the people who are already helping you.
Now, think about the areas where you aren’t getting as much help as you need. Those are the areas where you need to find more people who can help.
HB101’s guide to People Who Help with Housing is a list that says how you can contact people who help. It says who they help, what they do, and how to contact them.
Look over this list and pick out the people who you think might help you. Then, try contacting them and see if they can help you!
